As grassroots sport starts to heat up these cold winter days once more, the Melbourne Rovers Soccer Club has announced the restart of their training for the Men's team. With restrictions still in place, Rovers are making sure they have adapted to all the rules and regulations to ensure a safe, low risk environment.

What does a training session look like now? For Melbourne Rovers and most, if not all sporting teams, it means keep a log of who attends the session, restricted or removal to ground facilities such as change rooms & bathrooms, strict BYO rules on items such as drink bottles and most of all - the enforcement of social distancing. It's time to work on those formations, dribbling and passing Rovers!

Melbourne Rovers President, Heath Wilson, commented:

"After a couple of months break the squad has been itching to get back out on the soccer pitch to have a kick. The team has embraced the “new normal” requirements outlined for training by Football Victoria and respective levels of government. We would typically be running 2 teams in the South East Metropolitan Division earmarked for a late July start. The season will be shortened to a 3 month period."

A shortened season at this point would be welcome by most, if not all, members of the sporting community with so many sports cancelling whole seasons due to the pandemic. If you've been mastering the art of FIFA or PES on the Xbox during lockdown, maybe it's time to put those strategies to the test on the pitch.
